H04-New Frontiers of Process and Physical Metallurgy

Symposium Introduction

This symposium will provide an interdisciplinary forum for young scientists to discuss emerging advances in process metallurgy and physical metallurgy for advanced structural materials. It will highlight the integration of composition design, thermodynamics and kinetics, phase transformations, solidification, microstructural evolution, and interface phenomena with processing science to control defects and achieve superior mechanical performance, durability, and service reliability.
The symposium will encompass fundamental studies and engineering applications across melting and solidification, thermomechanical processing, heat treatment, welding and joining, surface and interface engineering, and additive manufacturing. Contributions combining advanced characterization, multiscale modelling, computational thermodynamics, data-driven methods, and process optimization are particularly encouraged. By connecting materials design, processing, microstructure, and performance, the symposium aims to deepen interaction between process and physical metallurgy, identify shared scientific challenges, and foster international collaboration toward the development and reliable manufacture of next-generation structural materials.
